Just after Moon Over Bourbon Street

--=Holodeck USS Serendipity=--

Breaux had been in the upstairs bedroom on the opposite end of the expansive courtyard and had considered a great many things.

"If O'Sullivan or Dalca come for me, what do I do?"

He'd left the French doors open and the backlit apartment with its yellowish lights had provided a nice touch for those that wandered past the fountain and toward the more modern pool of the courtyard.

"These are good people, but so were the colonists displaced by the Cardassians, Dominion, and Starfleet."

He could hear people below in the further reaches of the courtyard closer to the walkway and fountain that heralded the beginning of this hidden oasis.

"Have to keep up appearances at the very least -no need to run- yet."

He knew that soon, if all went well, he would rendevous with Angela Nolan and they could safely compare notes. That is, if Angela didn't make a move without consulting him.

More voices below.

He leaned forward slightly from his location at the end of his bed. He could see the lanterns in place by the pool. Still, he could see none of the others.

His eyes scanned the room, this was not furnished meagerly like his quarters aboard Sera. Everywhere there were reminders of his childhood growing up in New Orleans. His gaze came to rest on a collection of William Faulkner books.

"A gentleman can live through anything." Faulkner's words came to Avery.

He raised from the bed, adjusted the neck on his high-collared tuxedo and walked to the kitchen area where the rounded resevoir glass with absinthe sat, beckoning him. He set the spoon on the top of the glass and placed a sugar cube on top of the spoon. From his vantage point, he could see the courtyard area below and there appeared to be only a couple, enjoying a quiet moment. Knowing absinthe was more an act of contemplation than drinking, he slowly poured the ice cold water over the cube and allowed the drink to change color from green to a milky white.

"I'm going to need a few of these," he said to himself as he watched the transformation. He decided to let the courtyard fill before heading out onto the balcony.
