-=Aboard the USS Serendipity=-

Hok was piloting the USS Serendipity. Using a term the Hewmons say, it was pretty cool. It was definitely not the same as piloting a shuttle, something he had done on earth for six months, and it certainly wasn't anything like a training run in a holodeck. If it was possible, this ship had a style and personality, and Hok actually liked that.

Breaking up the routine, the Sera received a distress signal from Stra II, a place that provided computer technology to Starfleet. There had been several lucrative contracts awarded to outside sources, one of which his father had moved the Divine Treasury and Ferenginar, to try to get, but he had been unsuccessful. If they would be going there to help, and the Hewmons and Starfleet always wanted to help, perhaps there could be a way to make some kind of deal with someone, to earn a few bars of latinum. Hok smiled at the prospects.

Commander Salvek summoned the captain from her ready room and briefed her on the situation. The captain then contacted Admiral Vox and received clearance to respond to the call. Hok chuckled quietly. A chance to earn some profit.

"You heard the man," said Zanh. "Thomas, suspend all cross-departmental training and form away teams to assess the situation. Return the crew to normal duty rotations, and be sure that they know that this is not a drill."

That was a relief! Hok had been cross-training in security, the area in which he had the most trouble at the academy, barely passing. He was a lover of profit, not a fighter.

"Hok, set course for Stra II, maximum warp," said Zanh.

"Aye, Captain," said Hok. He tapped his console and brought up the location of Stra II on the navigation charts. Plotting the route, he entered the coordinates.

"Course laid in, Captain," said Hok. "We will divert course and arrive at our destination in two hours, forty-five minutes. Ready to engage on your mark."

"Go."

Hok tapped the console and the ship began to change direction and speed, his acute sense of hearing enabling him to literally feel the power moving through the Sera. He felt important being able to command such power. Hok felt like he had a purpose again. Perhaps more Ferengi should consider joining Starfleet.

Life was good!
