Admiral Lassiter sat in her office, drumming her fingers on her desk. She knew a lot had been happening recently, with the reorganizing of the chain of command for The Alchemy Project, and especially with Zanh Liis' marriage, but when she called for someone to appear before her, she expected them to be there like they were being chased by the hounds of Hell. Sighing, she drummed even faster.

"Admiral Lassiter."

The sound of Ensign Landry Steele's voice came through the intercom and gave Lassiter a start. With a harrumph, and an 'it's about time', she answered in a gruff voice.

"Yes? What is it?"

"Commander Salvek to see you, as ordered."

"Yes, yes. Send him in."

A few seconds later, the door to her office slid open, and in walked the XO of the Serendipity.

"You wish to see me, Admiral?" said Salvek, his hands clasped behind his back. His face showed no expression.

"I have a mission for you," said Lassiter, getting right to the point. "Do you know about the Hugreti?"

One of Salvek's eyebrows raised. "Indeed," he said.

"Yes. Indeed," said Lassiter. "We received a subspace transmission from Lethus IV, a planet being prepared for colonization. One of the construction crews managed to dig up a metal box." She handed Salvek a PADD. "Here's what it looks like."

The box was gray, approximately a half meter on all sides, with odd markings on one side. There were no switches or control mechanisms, no hinged lid, no visible means of access. It looked like a solid, metal box.

"Look at the markings on the top. Do you remember what you learned in school?"

Salvek studied the image on the PADD. "The Hugreti," he said simply.

"The Hugreti," said Lassiter, an ominous tone in her voice. "You're to take the Serendipity and get to Lethus IV, at best possible speed. Since the leader of the construction crew foolishly sent this over an unsecured channel, we don't know who else will show up.

"Get that box, Commander, and find out what it is, or what's inside. We can't allow Hugreti technology to fall into the wrong hands. Needless to say, this is a classified mission, and personnel on your ship are on a need to know basis. Understood?"

"Yes, sir," said Salvek.

"Dismissed," said Lassiter.
