TC sat at the tactical console deep in thought. What were they going to do once they reached Aertok. Sandwiched between two possible and more then likely probable Romulan warbirds was not desirable. They would have to find a way to contend with the Romulans and then formulate a rescue of their abducted captain, who from the newest information they had was suffering in some way.

He had run several simulations through the main computer and not a one of them gave a favorable outcome to the Alchemy and her crew. He had not even bothered to include intangibles such as the Ferengi becoming involved in a possible fight or that there might be other interested parties at this auction that wanted the captain. The Romulans were the greatest concern. It was becoming obvious that combat tactics alone would not win the day for them. So now he pondered over what other options were at their disposal.

"So what are you recommendations Mr. Blane?" Commander Salvek's voice stirred him from his ponderings. "Time is short."

TC sat up and thought for a moment longer before speaking. He shrugged his shoulders. "We are out classed, out gunned, and that is not even counting on what the Ferengi will do."

He stood up and stretched. "We do however have a key tactical advantage."

"Surprise." Salvek filled in the blank.

TC nodded. "Affirmative. Unfortunately I have not a clue how we can utilize it effectively. Any advantage we gain will be quickly be negated once they recover and adjust to us."

He rubbed his chin as he paced about the bridge. It was habitual and helped him think. "So, here is what I am thinking. I am willing to bet my under-roos that the Romulans are trying to keep this whole deal on the QT. After all, that is how I would do it. Not good for diplomacy to be taking part in sentient life form trafficking. Not to mention kidnapping of a ranking officer in Starfleet."

He stopped pacing and turned to Salvek. "Maybe we should look at this another way. Let's telegraph our presence as we near the planet, act like we have not a clue that they are here. They do not know we are alone in this. They are not expecting us either and they more then likely do not want a fight with Starfleet over a matter that up to this point involves only the Ferengi."

He smiled. "We give them an out, a built in excuse. They can slink off back to Romulus because as far as they are concerned we never knew they were here. Allowing us to deal with the Ferengi one on one." He shrugged again. "That is what I would do in their shoes."

He folded his arms across his chest. "Of course that is all dependent on how bad the Romulans want the Captain. It could just as easily go the other way, which really does not change our current situation."

"That, sir, is my tactical assessment." He stared at Salvek. "The ball's in your court."
