Zander tilted backwards in the chair behind his desk and rubbed his eyes. The stations sensor arrays were finally back on line, and long range scans were once again operational; but for how long was anybody guess. The continuing power issues on the station were making his duties even more stressful then they already were.

The station naturally received heavy interstellar traffic. The coming and going of supply ships and repair vessels was non-stop, not to mention the normal commercial traffic of the system. All were supposed to be monitored, scanned, and inspected by the tactical department to ensure the safety of the station and the ships that were continuing repairs on it. Needless to say, without long range sensors that particular duty was near impossible, not to mention dangerous.

[Command center to Lt. Blakeslee.]

Zander sighed. *Now what?*

“Blakeslee here.”

[You have a priority personal message coming in from Delta IV.]

Zander sat up taller in his chair. *Priority? Oh man I hope everyone is OK.*

“I’ll take it down here.” He spun to face the small screen that adorned the right side of his office desk. He stared at the spinning Starfleet emblem on the screen for what seemed like forever before it changed to reveal a pair of plump infant faces. Both smiling and cooing with the required amount of baby drool.

A large smiled crossed his face at the sight of his children on the small screen.

“Well, what do you know, it’s the admiral. Oh, and I see that you have the president there with you as well.” He laughed as the worry of what could possibly have been wrong was erased by the sight of his twins.

“Hello my offspring.” He ran his fingers over the monitor in an attempt to touch them from across the expanse of space. “It’s your Daddy, yes. Oh hee hee. Ah goo, ah goo goo.”

A passing ensign stopped at the doorway to Zander’s office and stared in at the normally stoic chief’s behavior. She smiled before moving on, not wanting to intrude on the obviously private moment.

“So tell me, oh great and powerful bubba of babes, where is your mother? Run off with another man maybe?” He joked, knowing full well that his lovely wife would be nearby.

Lovely, and naked... and bald. Although he could only see her head and shoulders... if was past dusk on Seyalia, as sure as God made little green apples, his wife would have lost the clothes.

The twins were moved off screen, no doubt into the loving arms of one of Samthia's many sisters, also in various states of undress. He sighed, They were wrong when they coined the phrase 'Heaven on Earth'... Heaven was on Seyalia. And Samthia, his angel.

His wife, his commune, his children. He closed his eyes momentarily, remembering her smell, her taste...

The sight of her gave rise to his passion. Six months since he had been with her. Her weekly video-grams had kept him going. But he was counting the days until shore leave.

"Zander, my One." She smiled with her eyes.

He could tell she had good news...

She held up a PADD to the screen. Clearly he could see the Starfleet emblem.

"Are you serious?"

She nodded, tears springing to her eyes.

"Orders to report to the Serendipity."

He took a deep breath... "All of us?" he asked, trepidation creeping into his voice.

"All of us, my One... a family posting. Merry Krist-mass!"

Zander threw his head back in silent thanks. A family posting was highly rare... very much sought after... the odds of being accepted were high, the wait times... well, it had been nearly three years since they applied.

He would have taken her right then and there... had she not been half-way across the galaxy.

"Well, are you not curious as to my position?"

He nearly quipped 'I am always curious as to your...position...' but thought better of it. "Tell me." he asked simply.

"Stellar Cartography."

"Your first love." he commented, a gentle smile crinkling his blue eyes.

"You are my first love." Samthia corrected. She slipped the orders into the comm, sending him a copy. "Soon we will be joined again."

Zander grinned from ear to ear. “You have no IDEA how good this sounds to me.” He leaned forward his eyes glinting. “I have missed you, all of you, so much.”

Samthia simply smiled broadly in answer.

“A new ship, a new adventure with my wife and kids in tow. What more could I ask for.” He sighed looking at his wife’s form on the monitor. “Except to be there with you NOW of course.”

A pang of guilt washed over him. He hated to leave the station now, especially in the condition it was in. “There is so much to do here still.” He practically mumbled.

“We belong among the stars, my One. Until then, I shall pine for you, lust for you and dream of you. But now, I must tuck your sons into bed. Thomas can already name half the stars in the sky and Johannes has already completed the erector set you sent to him... so much like you... Gahera, remahna, savi." Samthia always said goodbye with her wedding vows to him.

He touched the screen. “I love you too.” He smiled. “Always.”

The transmission ended and he sat back with a sigh. He always felt drained when he spoke to his wife, but it was always in a good way. He could not wait to see her and his children again but until then, he grabbed the stack of PADDs and began to sort through them, there was work to do.

Plus, he would have to tell the Captain that he would be leaving them yet again. . .
