The sensation from the overload offered nothing less than blinding light all about the smallish Engineering room. Those working there had covered their eyes with forearms and tried to shield themsleves as best they could given the instantaneous flash of light.

Breaux rushed to Lair's side..."It was the overload from the transwarp," he shouted as though alerting the Engineering Department would help in some small way.

Lair was sprawled out on the decking of the Engineering room. Legs and arms askew, the obvious victim of the overwhelming power unleashed by the overload. She was face down. Avery determined there was no danger of being injured by handling her.

She did not respond to Breaux calling out her name as he slid to a position on the deck next to her.

He checked her vitals, two fingers to the side of her neck. Watching for breathing...he found nothing. His senses were racing yet he had to remain calm.

Raising one of her eyelids he saw that her pupil was enlarged and offered no reaction to the intense lighting of the department. Avery sensed that the Engineering team that was deftly handling the residual damage from their most recent efforts-hand Engineering under control.

Breaux tapped his comm badge, "Emergency beam out...two signatures...Lair is down from a warp overload...she's non-responsive..."

Waiting what seemed like forever for a response from the bridge, Avery swore under his breath.

"Medical Emergency in Engineering! Code White, repeat, Code White!" Avery tried again, and he began to realize that help may not come as quickly as he'd hoped. Finally, he heard Commander Blane's voice over the comm.

[Lt Breaux?]

"It's Commander Lair, Sir." Avery could see several engineers standing close at hand, all looking excruciatingly helpless as they waited for their fallen leader to be whisked away to Sickbay.

[Transporters are down,] Blane replied regretfully, [Help is on the way.]

As Avery waited, he realized that he had to do what he could do in the meantime.

"Okay Kellyn, we're going to have to do this the old fashioned way, here we go." He announced, moving her into proper position.

He tilted Lair's head back, blew several quick breaths of air into her mouth while holding her nose closed, and then folded his hands and began chest compressions, counting each one out aloud as he tried to forcefully breathe the life back into Lair Kellyn's lifeless body.
