-=Aboard the USS Serendipity -TC Blane’s Quarters=-

The computer had indicated that Blane was in his quarters, and so Avery activated the door chime of TC Blane's quarters and awaited an answer.

TC had been sitting comfortably in his chair, reading up on the most recent log files of the repairs to the Alchemy and drinking a fresh cup of joe when the door chime rang. Sunshine let loose her customary bark and ran with tail wagging to the door. She obviously was hoping that one of her many young friends would be on the other side to invite her to play. Perhaps in the arboretum where she could help the Vedek dig some now holes, she loved helping to dig holes.

TC Set the cup down on the small table in front of his chair and stood. He was not expecting any visitors, so he approached the door while smoothing out his duty jacket.

“OK. Stand aside, you mutt you.” He smiled at the dog who reluctantly moved to the side of the door and sat impatiently waiting for her master to open it so she could properly greet whoever was on the other side. Her tail continued to wag expectantly.

TC hit the button to open the door, revealing Avery.

“Doctor, what brings you to my humble domicile?” He asked as Sunshine stuck her head past TC’s leg to give a welcome lick to Avery’s closest hand.

Avery pet the dog and offered quite sincerely, "I hate to impose upon you...we're scheduled for the cross-training and I thought maybe when you were clear, I could furnish you with some rudimentary medical training, perhaps something you aren't familiar with, or something you might feel would be helpful in your field..."

Avery knelt down to rub the dog behind the ears...he looked up to TC, "We haven't really spent a great deal of time together...we could make it a social/business session if you like." Breaux smiled and stood up.

TC stood to the side. “Come on in.” After Avery entered, he followed. “I know a pretty good amount about emergency medicine. Combat triage and all that.” He motioned for the doctor to have a seat.

He sat down across from the Doc. “But I also agree that we had not had a chance to get acquainted.” He rubbed his chin. “And as often as I am in sick bay it is probably a good idea to get to know that guy who will be patching me up.”

Avery grinned..."I have to admit...I've looked over your file...I don't know if you've had a chance to look at mine...I tried to familiarize myself with the Senior Staff when I first came aboard...I do have a question for you..."

Breaux paused and tried to be respectful, "You seem...to run...contrary to Starfleet on occasion...I find that interesting...not threatening, just interesting...or am I just off-base?

TC thought for a moment before responding. “I simply do my duty. Some times in the course of doing that certain aspects of Starfleet command and I do not see eye to eye. I believe that my captain and my crew trump Starfleet’s wishes on certain occasions.”

He eyed the doctor with his ice blue eyes. “I have not delved into your file but the Captain speaks highly of you, that is good enough for me.” He thought for a moment. “From what I understand you have a colorful history. Or am I off-base?” He returned.

Avery laughed, "Touche'...I have a tendency to try to work past the initial awkward stages of introduction...perhaps it's a downfall of mine...I'm constantly trying to get to know the real aspects of crew mates...perhaps too quickly...force of habit I'm afraid..."

Breaux backed off, "We lost a number of good people on Erasmus over the years...I always tried to know my comrades...forgive me." Breaux pressed on, "So...you have knowledge of triage, which is ample for any crew member...what can you enlighten me regarding your job?"

TC nodded. “Operations is, in a nutshell, in charge of managing the affairs of the ship on a day to day basis. While all of the other departments sing their individual tunes, it is us in Ops who are the conductors that tune it into music.” He smiled. “Basically, we make sure the ship does not implode with the demands for resources, personnel, etc. And don’t worry about offending me in any way. I've got thick skin, as long as you shoot straight with me, we will be cool.”

"So how can Medical make things run smoothly for Ops?"

TC though for a moment before responding. “I think as long as we keep up good communication between the departments things will go smoothly. Just keep us appraised on what you need and when you need it, and we can work it out.”

“So what attracted you to medical, I heard you were one heck of an engineer?”

Avery shook his head, of course, he couldn't relate that his posting as an Engineer had all been a facade to cover his Intelligence work, "Becoming a doctor has always been a dream of mine...a calling I suppose...the openings were in Engineering, and I have to admit, I struggled finding the time and answers for medical exams early in my career...and now...here we are." He smiled.

"I don't want to take more of your time...I'd love to have lunch or dinner sometime when you're free," Avery stood and made his way toward the doorway.

TC nodded as he stood and escorted Avery to the door. “That can be arranged. Stop by Ops next time your on the bridge, and we’ll show you around.” He shook Avery’s hand before he left.

As the door slid shut, TC turned back to he reports, plopping back into his chair as he patted Sunshine on the head.
