-=Bridge – USS Serendipity=-

The Serendipity hovered in orbit above what Zander lovingly referred to as the big blue marble, Earth. He sat in the center chair and read over the morning reports from around the ship. He normally did not work the ‘A’ shift but with the big event on the surface and the majority of the command staff planet side he was the head honcho.

Not that it really mattered all that much. His primary responsibility was to simply keep the ship in orbit and oversee the minor repairs and re-supply that were required. He was not expecting any issues as they sat in the heart of the Federation. The biggest job was simply to keep the ship from colliding with numerous others that crowded Earth’s orbit.

Zander had volunteered to stay aboard and allow the officers that had known the captain for a longer period of time to attend the wedding and reception in Cork . He was somewhat chagrined at missing the event but took solace in the fact that he was in charge of the welcome home party.

Commander Blane had expressly ordered the party to allow those who could not make the wedding and reception to honor their captain. He also made it clear that it was to be a celebration of not just the wedding but of survival. The Sera and her crew had made it past more danger in a few short years then most crews see in a lifetime.

“Celebrate for today cause who knows what we will be doing tomorrow.” Commander Blane had said to him when giving instructions for the party.

He was so deep into thought that he did not hear the lift doors open and close or the clicking of a pair of heels on the bridge decking as they approached.

“I am headed to the surface for the wedding.” Samthia’s voice startled him.

He turned to see a beauteous vision of his wife standing before him. Samthia was dressed in a form-fitting ankle length royal blue dress with a low cut back and sequined sleeves. A pair of silver high heels finished off the outfit.

Zander now really regretted not going to the wedding.

“How do I look.” She asked as she twirled, drawing the attention of a few of the male ensigns that were manning the bridge.

Zander noticed the stares and tapped on the arm of the captain’s chair to get their attention them motioned for them to return to their duties.

He turned back to his wife. “Obviously you look incredible.”

She smiled warmly. “I shall miss you.”

He returned the smile. “And I you.”

He wanted to kiss her but proper decorum prevented this. He would make up for it later.

“Have fun.” He smiled then quickly frowned at her. “But not too much fun.”

Samthia laughed as she turned to leave. “I could never have that much fun without you, my One.” She stepped into the lift and was gone.

Zander slowly exhaled and once again found himself thankful to have fallen in love with such a wondrous woman. He was indeed a lucky man.

“Commander, we have a request from the shuttle Drake to dock.” Ensign Slidel reported from the Ops station.

Zander turn to look at the ensign. “Supplies?”

“Aye sir. As well as passengers.”

Zander did not remember anything about new crew coming aboard. “Replacements?”

Slidel looked at the information on his screen. “No sir. Looks like they Starfleet officers coming onboard as information sharing session as well as hitching a ride to Amamdrone.”

Zander stood up and walked over to the Ops station. “OK. I am assuming all of the orders are in…order. They're not from TI are they?” He asked with suspicion lacing his voice.

Sildel shook his head. “Orders are directly from Starfleet Command.”

“Very well, put them into shuttle bay one and set them up with guest quarters.” He peered over the ensign’s shoulder and whistled. “Hummm, Commander Paxton Briggs and Commander Lance Hartcort, pretty impressive ranks, make sure you give them good guest quarters.”

He reached over Sildel’s shoulder and pushed the button for more information on their guests, a second officer and a CMO, fairly important folks. He figured he had better greet them in person.

He turned and made his way to the lift. “Sildel you have the bridge I’m going to greet our guests. Let me know where they will be staying as soon as you know.

“Aye sir.”
